Final Projects, January 2023
Below are abstracts of the most recent graduating projects. Full portfolios and dissertations are available through the TUDublin library catalogue.
These students worked on comprehensive building design in one of the following areas in Smester 2 before developing the research projects you see described below in Semester 3:
Architecture + Collectivity:
This unit worked with the children and staff of the Sligo Sudbury School, investigating how the democratic model of education practiced in the school might manifest itself in extensions proposed to a nineteenth century school house. The unit explores participative modes of architectural design.
Dr Brian Ward, TU Dublin; Deirdre McMenamin, LiD Architects, Berlin; Dr Alice Casey, TAKA Architects
Architecture +Technology:
This unit integrated the writing of speculative fiction into their design process to imagine possible futures for a quarry and power station in Finglas, Dublin, at the M50 and N2 interchange. Their architectural visions seek to transcend our current mechanised Industrial Age, and move towards a more biological understanding of our habitable environment.
Dr Marcin Wojcik, TU Dublin; Dr Manuel Kretzer, Hochschule Anhalt; Dr Sarah Sheridan, TU Dublin
Architecture + Landscape:
This unit proposed projects for Mulranny, Mayo County Council’s Decarbonising Zone. The unit investigates how a process of decarbonisation might support and improve the landscape and seascape of this rural area and the lives of the people who live there.
Dr Steve Larkin, TU Dublin; Helena Fitzgerald, Helena Fitzgerald Archtiects; Dr Kevin Donovan, TU Dublin
